Doug has loved cars his entire life. He’s spent the last 11 years designing and overseeing the production of several vehicles. But you won’t find Doug’s work at a local dealership or on the cover of the latest automotive magazine. Doug designs a different kind of vehicle for a slightly younger demographic.
Meet Doug Miller, Head of Design at Power Wheels. Earlier this month I had a chance to chat with Doug about his role at Power Wheels. Join us as we go behind-the-scenes of one of the most iconic toy brands in America.
DC: Describe the process for selecting vehicles.
Doug: We look at it in a bunch of different ways. Whether there is a segment we feel is missing out there. Maybe there is a new vehicle out there that we like. Obviously we are looking at licensed vehicles which are real vehicles that are out there. We look for vehicles that are aspirational and lend itself to our primary age range which is 3-5.
All the guys that work for me are car guys. They are all into vehicles. We attend as many auto shows as we can. We also send people to SEMA. We haven’t gone to Geneva, which I think is the best auto show in the world. The great thing about Geneva is it isn’t anyone’s home turf. It’s equal ground for all automakers.
