During our son’s first bath a camera hovered above catching every second of what was likely a horrifying experience for him. When he took his first steps, my wife frantically rushed for the camera not wanting to miss a second of it.
This weekend I had my quick-get-me-a-camera moment. This weekend my son said his first vroom-vroom and did it while pushing a toy car across the floor. Daddy filled with joy. Like any respectable modern-day parent, I captured the entire event on camera.
Vroom-vroom may be a typical toddler expression, but for a father as foolishly in love with automotive as I, it is much more than that.
Could this could be ‘that spark?’ That moment when my son decides he too will be a car guy. Visions of late nights in the garage, father and son trips to Monaco and long nights perusing Craigslist begin to fill my head.
I planned on sharing my reaction here, in a short write up. Instead, I found myself struggling to capture in words the emotion that came over me watching my son that day.
Instead of words, I made a video.
I’ll never forget the day he pressed all 26lbs of his heft onto the roof of that little yellow Corvette as he pushed it across the hardwood floor, making one of the most beautiful sounds a car has ever made…
