A Tale of D.C. Autos and Collision Repair Salt Lake City

This is Jerry the Geek and in today’s installment I would like to tell you the tale of how my D. C. auto came to require the services of a collision repair Salt Lake City shop. Actually, the facts of this story are pretty predictable. I drove my car which is registered in the District of Columbia (a. k. a. Washington, D. C.) all the way across country to the great state of Utah. I remember being in good spirits as I entered the Salt Lake City metro area. This good mood however was dashed on the rocks of despair when another car side swiped me causing no small amount of damage.

The operator of the other vehicle was friendly enough. He apologized profusely and accepted the blame for the accident. He told me that he had a friend who owned a collision repair shop located near by and promised me the guy would be fair and honest with me. I took him up on this proposal and made the call for the tow truck. After about a fifteen minute wait (which seemed more like a couple of hours) the tow truck pulled up.

After a short drive I found myself standing in the lobby of the collision repair shop. The mechanic looked my car over and told me I could be up and running by the following day. I was grateful the damage could be repaired in such a short amount of time and I took the opportunity to take in the sights of Salt Lake City. Certainly no visit to Salt Lake City would be complete without seeing Temple Square. So I called up an Uber and in no time at all I stood before the Mormon Temple. I ate dinner got a hotel and the next day returned to the collision repair shop to retrieve my car. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it.

The Elephant in the Room Regarding Collision Repair Salt Lake City

Let us put aside our fears and discuss frankly and honestly the elephant in the room regarding collision repair Salt Lake City and its potential impact on the D. C. Auto Geek readership. Now, we all know what I mean by the phrase elephant in the room. When I use this phrase I am talking about a subject that is painfully obvious to all and yet nobody wants to talk about it for some reason of embarrassment or social taboo. But no elephant can be swept under the rug for too long. The obvious lump is too big to ignore or avoid indefinitely.

Now that we have established the unavoidable position that the elephant in the room must be addressed, actually addressing it becomes our next and most daunting challenge. If there is one thing that I (Jerry the Auto Geek) have learned in my many years on this planet it  is that honesty is the best policy. Now I know that this is a very worn out cliche. But there is truth to it and the truth of the matter is very simple indeed. That truth is, reality prefers the truth. Allow me to explain.

Reality deals in truth. Reality is only true. For this reason an untruth runs in contravention to reality and just like mother nature, reality always wins in the end. For this reason it is far better to be truthful (i. e., address the elephant in the room) than it can ever be to sweep it under the rug and hope nobody notices it. Although there is a temptation to do so because in the short term the carpet can to some degree cover the elephant. We all know the elephant is there but for a time we can pretend it is not.

The Metaphysics of Collision Repair Salt Lake City

Consider the collision repair Salt Lake City of an unstoppable force with an immovable object. Put aside for the moment that there can be no such thing as an immovable object or an unstoppable force. Obviously, the existence of the one makes the existence of the other impossible. For if an object is immovable then no force can dislodge it. In the same respect, if a force is unstoppable then no object can stand in its way. For these reasons only one of these can exist and probably neither can exist in the known reality of the existence in which we find ourselves.

Proceeding with the understanding that neither an unstoppable force or an immovable object are likely to exist in our common experience, we may suspend our disbelief and enter the realm of the thought experiment. Let us say that this cataclysmic event actually did transpire. The question then arises, is there a collision repair shop (both in Salt Lake City or elsewhere) that can repair the damage in its aftermath? This is no small question to answer and is probably not a question that can be sufficiently answered within the scope of a three paragraph blog post.

Let it also be known that Jerry The Geek is neither an unstoppable force nor an immovable object. I am just a simple blog writer. Writing blogs is what I do. I do not generally stop forces or move objects (except those that I must move to make my way in the world such as picking up a coffee cup etc.). Be that as it may, because we are still within the realm of the thought experiment we may think of me as  an immovable object as my picture clearly depicts.

Collision Repair Salt Lake City

For any driver, encountering car collision might be quite unbearable. Thankfully, with today’s technology, most collision repair Salt Lake City services are efficient and effective.

Here are situations you would need to go to an auto body shop or collision repair.

Car Collisions

Traveling on the road can be a hazard, even if you are obeying all the rules. The sad truth is that even if you are moving at a slow speed, a collision can still cause severe damage to your vehicle. The most common damage from a collision is not the dents in the exterior of the car, but a bend in the frame. In the past, it was difficult to repair a bent frame, because it decreased the overall structural integrity. However, thanks to computer technology, straightening frames is more readily achievable.

Paint Scratches

There are many ways for your car to get scratches in the paint. Careless shoppers can bump your ride with their doors or even with a shopping cart. Keys and other sharp objects may be scraped against the side on accident. For some scratches, your auto body repair shop may be able to rub out the scuff. Bigger, deeper scratches may require filler and paint.

Dents can happen several different ways. These issues can result from a minor collision with another object, from a pole to a fence to another car door. No matter how the damage occurred, dent removal is one of the most common tasks completed at an auto body repair shop. There is a variety of ways to accomplish this task, depending on how much damage there is.

If the damage is from is a small ding with no paint removal, the technician may be able to tap it out from behind. If it is a larger area, however, the technician will need to drill a slight hole, insert a tool, and pull the damage out. The hole must then be filled in and repainted to match. However, if the car damage is too severe, the technician will have no choice but to replace the entire panel and possibly paint it to match.

Weather Related

Since your car spends a lot of time outside, having weather-related damage is fairly common. While you might think of denting due to hail as the only damage you can receive from the weather, it is far from the only problem. Exposure to the excessive sun can cause the vehicle’s paint to fade. In this case, your vehicle will need to be sanded and repainted with factory-matched paint.

Excessive moisture over several years may cause rust to form. In this event, the technician will cut the spot away and replace it with new metal. This area will then be painted to match the rest of the car. Auto body repair is very common. While you probably think you can handle most of these smaller repairs yourself, it is best to have a trained professional make the changes.

Collision repair services can include either damage to the interior or exterior body part of the car. It may also involve severe damage to the structural parts of your vehicle. Therefore, you need to conduct extensive research in Salt Lake City to find a good auto body company and make an informed choice.
