I run an auto body repair Salt Lake City shop. The other day (which day I can’t rightly remember exactly) I ran across an intriguing repair job problem. I was working on a 2014 Honda Accord. The specific car I was working on was a bright canary yellow as I recall. The make, model and color of the car does not specifically pertain to the technical issue I ran into but it does affix the car in my memory.
This car had a damaged radiator core support that I was aiming to fix. The air conditioner itself was not the least bit damaged and happened to be fully charged at the time I assessed the situation. The problem I faced was that the air conditioner was blocking my repair access to the core support that happened to be damaged. I spent a long time trying to figure out a way to access the core support without removing the condenser. Sometimes it helps to just put the tools down, walk outside the auto body Salt Lake City shop, breathe in some fresh air and get some perspective on the problem. Usually when I take this approach I find that the answer will come to me a lot faster than it would if I remained in the garage scratching my head.
Finally the answer came to me. I walked back inside the collision repair Salt Lake City shop and approached the yellow Honda Accord. I then proceeded to recover the refrigerant from the condenser. Once it was drained, I removed the condenser. It turns out that there was no other way to do it. This was what came to me as I stood outside taking in the fresh air. Sometimes the solution to a problem is the simplest but not necessarily the most convenient one.
